An agreement to establish a joint territory through science and technology (S&T) involvement was signed by the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and the United Territory of Ladakh.

 

♦ D.Srinivas Reddy signed the document, CSIR-IIIM Director, and Rigzin Sample, who is a specialist in agriculture and horticulture in Ladakh, Utah.

♦ A information relationship between CSIR and Ladakh UT aims to create the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding.

♦ Areas such as the exploration of natural resources, the introduction of cash crops in the region and the use of biological resources specific to Ladakh are to be established.

♦ In the first phase, comprehensive information and technical support will be provided by CSIR-IIIM, CSIR-CMERI, CSIR-NBRI, CSIR-IHBT, CSIR-CLRI and CSIR-NGRI in the Alliance Territory. To this end, a node organization will become the CSIR-IIIM of Jammu.

♦ Aromatic and nutritious plants or crops, geophysical mapping, eco-friendly processing of leather, bioprospecting of local microorganisms, industrial agriculture (focused on the commercialization of local and other high-value drugs), plant diversity, and microbial and biotech interventions are key areas of interest.

 

In September 1942, CSIR was established by the Indian government. It is an independent entity and has become the largest R&D organization in India now. This institution is financed primarily by the Department of Science and Technology. It is an independent institution according to the Association Registration Act of 1860. Research and growth, marketing and promotion will now begin at the various CSIR institutes and social projects under this agreement. These projects will be based on its core competitiveness in the region. The institution is involved in various research and development activities such as structural engineering, aerospace engineering, marine science, metallurgy, chemistry, food, life sciences, petroleum, leather and environmental sciences.
